To that end, keeping a training journal is quite helpful. (I just wish that my roommate would acknowledge Dragon's improvement more often, rather than "jokingly" calling him a bad dog for growling at him.)Joannahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09491779584676839564noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1101438868458660054.post-40559530232399715542011-09-12T10:36:58.590-05:002011-09-12T10:36:58.590-05:00I have experienced rescuer-trainer burnout, especi...I have experienced rescuer-trainer burnout, especially when I had 4 dogs and three were active males with serious issues! I think the only solution to that stress was finding the right home for one of them.

Now that I have a more manageable number, I find that the dogs themselves are the best remedy for the fatigue they are responsible for:) As stressful as it is to walk two reactive dogs, the sensation of cuddling with both of them is one of the most fulfilling things I can imagine.Kirsten (peacefuldog)https://www.blogger.com/profile/17157607807509631485noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1101438868458660054.post-30864125521315012912011-09-11T21:03:29.326-05:002011-09-11T21:03:29.326-05:00Catalina- YES. Andrea-...Catalina- YES. I've been there, too.

Andrea- Excellent, excellent addition. I didn't think of that because I've never faced it, but I know people who've had to make difficult decisions, and... yeah, it's hard. Giving up a dog, no matter how socially unacceptable, is sometimes the best thing for everyone involved, dog included.

Ninso- Yup, been there, done that whole hypervigilance thing. It's a vicious cycle because Maisy and I end up feeding off each other's anxiety. I think I've become nearly as jumpy as my dog.
